COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAMS:
Healthy Women, Healthy Babies. HAAD provides a Spanish support group and mental health counseling for pregnant women and new mothers. Mothers are screened for depression, anxiety, and stress, and are connected to resources in the community available for them. Additionally, mothers participate in physical activity sessions with music and dance, as well as culturally appropriate healthy lifestyle sessions for Hispanic women. The dance workouts feature Latin and multicultural music.
Bilingual Addictions and Mental Health Programs. With the support of partners such as Hispanic Personal Development, HAAD promotes the integration of bilingual community health workers, therapists and social workers in schools and medical facilities. At our community center in Wilmington, we provide screening, brief intervention, and referral (SBIRT) for people with depression, anxiety, or SUDs. As part of this preventive work, HAAD is developing a storytelling approach around the use of opioids, with the aim of raising awareness in the community and reducing the stigma surrounding people suffering from addictions. HAAD is also running a Hispanic youth group to promote a healthy and positive life among BIPOC youth.
